Like all Nantucket books, "A Nantucket Wedding" is about life on the island more than life itself. Nancy Thayer has done a good job of creating characters and a plot that keep our interest. Alison and David are engaged to be married and plan to get married on the island. The book is all about Alison trying to bring her family and David's together as she prepares for the wedding. It is towards the end of the book that Thayer, through David's toast, explains that a marriage is a private bond between two people while a wedding is a party for everyone. A wedding is a brief flash while a marriage is real life. A wedding is a fairy tale, but it is more than that; It is a promise that we will hold dear the joys of this fairy tale close to our hearts all through our marriage. All in all a nice summer read.
