Unlike many other of Allende's books, this one's main story is pretty simple: a murder mystery. Nevertheless, the three main characters enthrall the reader with their very tragic and probable life stories. All of them perfectly well described Latin American accounts of power abuse, crime and corruption.
This is an easy read, poignant and compelling. Her characters, as always, are perfectly rounded and charismatic. I really recommend this book!
