This is the conclusion to the incredible classic that has shaped every fantasy book since its publication, and it doesn’t disappoint. The world of Middle Earth is opened once again to the faithful followers of the lore of the One Ring, and once again we are thrown into the war that will shape the world. The first part focuses on Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Merry, Pippin, and Gandalf. Pippin, after looking into the Seeing Stone, is taken by the wizard Gandalf to Gondor to protect him, and Merry is left with the riders of Rohan as an assistant to the king. Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli leave Rohan to go through the fabled Passage of the Dead, and the fate of Rohan, Gondor, and the whole of Middle Earth hangs in the balance between urgency and patience. After the betrayal of Gollum and the surprise attack from Shelob, Samwise Gamgee is alone and exhausted, on the edge of Mordor while his master Frodo has been captured by Orcs. With Gollum still out there, biding his time and watching for an opportunity to steal back his precious, Sam must free Frodo, then they must head for the Cracks of Doom to destroy the Ring. But the Ring is really weighing on Frodo’s mind. Will he be able to cast aside his burden or is Middle Earth doomed? This book is an amazing conclusion to one of the most influential fantasy series ever written. I would recommend this book to those who love detailed descriptions, original languages, and a story that absorbs you completely. Great series, great conclusion. I only wish there was more to this tale.
