Slouching towards middle age, Porco Rosso makes his living by flying about in his red bi-plane and fighting sky bandits who prey on cruise ships sailing the Adriatic. When he's not engaging in dog fights, this pilot lives on a deserted island retreat. Porco was once a strappling young man, but after his entire squardron was wiped out, he is mysteriously transformed into a pig. Then he is defeated in a dogfight against a dashing American rival, who has been hired by the dastardly bandits. With his plane damaged, he finds a repair hanger near Milan where a local woman fixes his plane.

Charming and entertaining. The movie goes by so fast because you're enjoying watching it so much :-) Porco Rosso is a different as a main character as far as what the studio usually puts out. I found it refreshing! I also love the ending. What a strong plot choice!

This was a good film, it's not my favorite Hayao Miyazaki movie but the characters were interesting and there were a lot of funny moments. The ending though was what disappointed me, I think it could have been better but the other parts of the film were great. The one scene that took my breath away was when Porco Rosso shares his war story; I wont give details away but it's a film to check out if you like Hayao Miyazaki films.

Studio Ghibli has turned out yet another winning combination of old school animation and slightly outlandish storyline with a few piercing observations thrown in for good measure. This time around Miyazaki sets his sights on male chauvinism (it seems Porco is a pig in every sense) so it's no surprise that women play a major role in the story, including that 17-year old engineer whose innocence and wit save the pig in more ways than one. Although it may not be on the same level as Spirited Away or My Neighbour Tortoro, Porco Rosso's bright colours, wonderfully terse dialogue, and nicely realized action sequences...the aerial dogfights are choreographed perfectly while an aside involving truant schoolgirls is pretty funny...are sure to entertain kids of all generations.

Fine Miyazaki semi-realistic action fantasy featuring memorably beautiful animated flying over the Mediterranean Sea. Only the final extended John Wayne style fist fight disappoints. Well worth watching if the story description seems at all interesting to you.

My family loves this movie. It's funny, witty, creative, and just plain interesting. Great movie that isn't as widely recognized as Spirited Away or My Neighbor Totoro, but just as good, if not better in some areas. You'll like it. ;D

This movie was hilarious and touching. The story was great, and the scenery was amazing with so much detail.
It was truly amazing, especially the animation, considering the time it was animated. The movie is about a depressed pilot who has a curse that has turned him into a pig. And there is a lady who is in love with him, but an American pilot named Curtis loves her too and soon Porco develops a rivalry with Curtis. With the aerial fights and the air pilots, it might a teeny bit much for younger viewers , but it is amazing and so good that you'll have to watch it again and again. :)
