A must read for anyone who loves a mystery with a side of snark. I laughed out loud as Finlay muddles her way through single motherhood & murder. Highly recommend!

Loved this book! Fast-paced, witty, and clever. It was unbelievable but so well conceived that it could almost happen, and I couldn't stop reading. Finlay Donovan is a likable yet struggling novelist and stressed out mother of two young children, whose husband has just left her for a glamorous real estate agent.

The key word in this novel is "inadvertently." Through a series of misunderstood clues, Finlay is mistaken for a contract killer and inadvertently accepts an offer to "take care of" a thoroughly despicable husband. She needs the money, as does her babysitter/accomplice, yet neither would be desperate enough to actually commit murder. But inadvertently they find themselves having to dispose of a body. Finlay continues to inadvertently mislead various people into thinking she is someone else - from a contract killer, to her husband's mistress, to a health club member - as she tries to solve the murder and make sure she isn't accused of the crime she didn't commit.

Brilliant and laugh-out-loud funny in an "I Love Lucy" style, this is just the type of light and entertaining mystery we all need to read right now!

Oh my goodness, it's been a long time since I've laughed this much throughout a mystery book! (And, I read a lot of cozy mysteries, which are often filled with humor, so that's saying a lot.) This was my first time reading anything by this author and I hope she writes more adult books of this caliber so it won't be my last. I'd give this book 10 stars or more, if the rating system allowed us too add extra. If you want a good laugh while reading a great mystery, this is the book for you! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Fun! This cries out for a Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock interpretation.

A New & Noteworthy fiction staff pick 2021. The author of romantic suspense novels is mistaken for a serial killer and hired to do a job. Laugh along with Finlay in this series launch.

I loved this book! I was looking for something a little different from my thrillers and rom coms and this is the perfect mix. It kept me entertained, I laughed out loud, and was surprised by the twists and turns throughout. I didnt guess what would happen in the end and found it thoroughly satisfying and engaging. I will definitely be reading more from this author as I understand it is the first in a new series. I would recommend it!

Ever wonder if discussing the plot of a book in a public place like Panera could give a customer at a neighboring table the wrong idea? After meeting with her agent at the local Panera, Finlay finds a note in her person offering $50,000 for a contract killing. Could she use that money to pay all those bills that are piling up? Yep. Is she a killer? Nope. Why does she find herself with a body that needs to be buried later that night? Who will stick with her in this sticky situation? I found this book to be surprisingly entertaining, humorous, and touching. We see Finlay struggling. She is vulnerable, but not without support. There will definitely be another book about Finlay and I am looking forward to reading it. This is the perfect book for fans of the Stephanie Plum series.
