Arden Maxwell, the daughter of the man who vanished twenty years ago following his involvement in a heist gone wrong, returns to her family home near mysterious Caddo Lake to finally get answers to the questions that torment her about his disappearance, but little does she know, two of her father's co-conspirators -- a war hero and a corrupt district attorney -- are watching her every move.
before p.100 I knew the story. For the first time in my reading life (I started at 3 and am now 76) I went to the end. I read some pages as I was getting there to make sure I had the story straight and I was right. I don't know if I've I'm too old and read too many books and they are all becoming the same or this was poorly written. This is a first for me.
After 20 years, Arden Maxwell wants to know what happened to her father. He left her and her sister after a robbery and a murder. Arden believes in her heart that he had nothing to do with it. Ledge Burnet is trying to keep her safe and help stop the real murderer.
A 20 year old mystery is solved using clever flashbacks of the original crime and what the various characters are up to now in 2020. Brown's characters are always fully realized - great heroine and a handsome but of course complicated hero.
Only issue I had was the very beginning when there was a tragic start to the story.
Comment
Add a CommentI always enjoy a Sandra Brown novel. This one didn't dissappoint. It kept me guessing and the twist at the end was one I didn't see coming.
