In a quiet, leafy suburb in upstate New York, a teenager has been sneaking into houses--and into the owners' computers as well. Learning their secrets, and maybe sharing some of them, too. Who is he, and what might he have uncovered? As whispers start to circulate, suspicion mounts. And when a woman down the street is found murdered, the tension reaches its breaking point. Who killed her? Who knows more than they're telling? And how far will all these very nice people go to protect their little secrets? In this neighbourhood, it's not just the husbands and wives who play games. Here, everyone in the family has something to hide.

Definitely a page turner

The term 'page turner' is infinitely overused, but Someone We Know provides an example of the real deal. Being able to imbue an all-encompassing, pervasive, simmering anxiety throughout the book evinces genuine authorship skills. Superb choice of setting (neighborhood and surrounding countryside), as well as time of year. Even the book jacket graphic is spot on. But to effect this agitating unease one needs a catalyst. Lapena summons up the cloistered redoubt of those lacking in confidence, the needy, possessive, sexually both jealous and unadventurous. To wit, the natural instability of monogamous relationships.

I've enjoyed all her books but this one is my favourite! It keeps you guessing right till the end! A wonderful, quick read that you can't put down! What a book! I can't wait for her next one!

I agree. It's been awhile since I read something I couldn't put down and stayed up too late to read just one more chapter....and then one more......really liked this book.

She is a great author and a Torontonian to boot however this was my least favorite of all her books. It was still good but I didn't find it as exciting as her others. Can't wait to see what she writes next...

Great read! Read it in one day, so much happening in one neighbourhood. Lots of characters but easy to keep track of. Shari Lapena has become my favourite author.

It's a quiet suburb in upstate New York, until anonymous letters start to arrive. "My son broke into your home recently while you were out." Into their homes, and into their computers as well. Learning their secrets, and maybe sharing some of them, too. When a woman down the street is found murdered, the tension reaches the breaking point. Who killed her? Who knows more than they're telling? And how far will all these very nice people go to protect their own secrets? 4 stars
