"The Russians don't just want to influence American elections--they want it all. Former CIA agent John Wells confronts a plot of astonishing audacity as New York Times-bestselling author Alex Berenson goes beyond today's headlines to tomorrow's all-too-real threats. It was supposed to be a terrorist sting. The guns were supposed to be disabled. Then why was there so much blood? The target was the American Airlines Center, the home of the Dallas Mavericks. The FBI had told Ahmed Shakir that his drug bustwould go away if he helped them, and they'd supply all the weaponry, carefully removing the firing pins before the main event. It never occurred to Ahmed to doubt them, until it was too late. When John Wells is called to Washington, he's sure it's to investigate the carnage in Dallas, but it isn't. The former CIA director, now president, Vinnie Duto has plenty of people working in Texas. He wants Wells to go to Colombia. An old asset there has information to share--and it will lead Wells to the deadliestmission of his life, an extraordinary confluence of sleeper cells, sniper teams, false flag operations, double agents high in the U.S. government--and a Russian plot to take over the government itself. If it succeeds, what happened in Texas will only be aprelude"--

Add a CommentA clear winner for Berenson with this one. Thoroughly enjoyed and recommend to those who love thrillers of this genre.
I enjoyed this book. He uses recent events to make the story plausible. This one was a bit too fanciful. But that didn't detract from a good story. I think he left a few open doors for the next story. I can't wait.
Berenson is good at his craft he doesn't disappoint. Good book....fast read.
Another fast read by Alex Berensen. His books are easy to get into the story and hard to put the book down once you start reading. I especially like that Berensen uses little if no profanity, in his books. This was a good book and a must read if you are a fan of John Wells.
Alex Berenson can really come up with and write a great story. THE DECEIVERS is a wondersful addition to his superb series of books starring John Wells. Same great character and story line development as always. Wells continues to struggle with himself while still doing the job he does best - finding and fending off those who would destroy America. What makes this book especially interesting though, is the timeliness of the story line - just how far would Russia go to undermine America's election processes. Scary possibilities - hopefully not prescient. I like that Berenson is always circling around some our country's most glaring social and political issues. Great read.
