Some writers think that obscenities and profanity must flow like a raging flash flood for the characters to be "authentic" or "tough." It's a crutch that fails to hold them up and adds nothing.

This book, sadly, is a trash-fest and is all the weaker for it. Cannot recommend it to anyone.

Ended to abruptly. Should have had one more chapter to tie up loose ends. Of all of the Cole books, this was my least favorite.

I also enjoyed this book. I'm glad I didn't read the plot synopsis first, because if I had, there would've been no reason to read the book.

I have really enjoyed the Virgil Cole and Everett Hitch western lawmen duo ever since Parker wrote the first one. This one by Robert Knott continues in the tradition and is a very good read. Ends a little too abruptly, but ties up all the loose ends. Not too many modern writers of old west stuff that I read anymore, but will continue to read about these two favorite US Marshals until they let me down.
