This movie was crazy confusing and disappointing with such anticipation. It was just not what I expected and definitely not worth the wait.

This movie was a let down. A very slow plot, depressing scenery and it was a piece of cake to figure out in the middle of the movie while using critical thinking, who was the serial killer. This was probably the main loss of the movie. Mind, there are lots of gruesome dead corpses, so check before letting your teens watching this.
Note there were many things in the movie unexplained: in the opening scene a woman, mentally ill living in the middle of nowhere let her child to be abused (and herself too) by a police officer and then she tried to take life of her child. Not clearly explained unless we assume she was mentally ill or madly in love with the police officer. Maybe you will catch that. We did not.
Expected more.

Compelling atmospheric thriller with a good story and acting. Great sets--definitely would not want to live in Norway! Brrrr...

I wanted to like this movie more as I love Michael Fassbinder. Beautifully filmed. Great actors.

This is the worst adaptation I have ever seen. (Yes, worse than the 1970s Russian Avant-garde adaptations of Shakespeare!) Slow beyond boring. And why are they able to correctly pronounce "Stop" as "Stoop" but unable to correctly pronounce "Hole" as "Hoo-lay"? Really, we have to have potty humor in a serious crime drama? The "artistic views" are neither artistic nor do they move the plot or set tone. Spend your precious time on something else.

I love the Nesbo books, but I found the story in this DVD confusing at times. I think the pieces are there and acting was acceptable, but the editing was ineffective.

Gritty and gruesome police crime drama with some of the biggest names in movies from the author (Jo Nesbø) and actors (Michael Fassbender, Rebecca Ferguson (agent Faust in M.I.), Charlotte Gainsbourg, Toby Jones, Val Kilmer, J. K. Simmons, and Chloë Sevigny. Their stage is the wintry Norway -- described in the bonus material: the drive over the Atlantic Road, Oslo, Ulriken Mountain in Bergen.

The Snowman is a film based on the Jo Nesbo book by the same name. Michael Fassbender plays Harry Hole, the Oslo police detective who is barely hanging on to his job due to his part-time profession of being an alcoholic. This must be about the 3rd or 4th Harry Hole novel (I’ve read them all, but don’t remember them too well) making the DVD a little confusing since you don’t know the characters or their relationships and no groundwork or background is given in the film. I find the books pretty confusing, the story and characters aren’t well defined for me, but maybe that is part of the fun for Nesbo in writing them. This DVD is not a great detective story, even with a string of gruesome murders, the characters and the unraveling mystery is not all that interesting. If you’ve read the books, you may want to watch the DVD, if you have not read the books the DVD is probably not worth watching, in the cold winter setting with cold characters, the DVD is overall rather cold.

Could not get through this confusing movie. Now I see that Fassbender will be in anything - doesn't have to be good.

A fine cast cannot save this mediocre script; but what makes this movie interesting is its 'look'. Director Tomas Alfredson (who did the 'Tinker, Tailor" remake) has a knack for exploiting both the natural and built landscape to frame really arresting shots, of which this film has quite a few. Those stand-alone moments are a partial offset to the disjointed story, gratuitous violence, and cliché-ridden ending that is sooo predictable.

Was it right for Sylvia Ottersen to kill her unborn child... simply because she couldn't keep track of who the father was?
-That was her choice.
You have a woman who loves you. A boy who's devoted to you. Why did you abandon them?
-They deserve better.
Too easy.
-Because I'm selfish. I'm an addict. There isn't enough room for them.
You know, when I first saw your picture in the papers... with all those medals... I thought, "That man must have a perfect family."
I need a case... to work on.
-I apologize for Oslo's low murder rate.
