This is an unashamedly opinionated film. In Gore Vidal's America, the political coup has already happened. The right have triumphed and the human values of the liberals have been consigned to history. But how did this happen and who organized it? In this film Gore Vidal's acerbic, opinionated and informed approach rips away at the facade of the new America. The film dramatizes Gore's political views and his concern at the present state of American democracy using interviews and historical footage of his famous appearances on television and talk shows over the last fifty years. In the recently filmed interviews Gore examines the course of American history and policy making and draws dramatic conclusions on the fate of the nation in the modern age.

Directed by Nicholas D. Wrathall in 2013, this 89-minute documentary depicts the life of Gore Vidal.
The film presents Vidal's unique and incisive overview of the current state of the Republic and the health of US democracy.
The United States was founded by the brightest people in the country, and the current citizens live in the United States of Amnesia or the United States of Arms-handling.

After watching this decidedly biased bio-documentary about "Mr. Opinion-Overload" (aka. Eugene Louis Gore Vidal) - I'm now convinced that way too many Americans have clearly placed far too much importance on what this obstinate public figure had to say.

I found that for a man who never had a single, successful intimate relationship in his entire lifetime (where he remained virtually celibate) - Vidal sure had an annoying knack for mouthing-off (with such superiority) about the inadequacy of so many others.

IMO - Vidal's final 4 words in this documentary, pretty much, summed up (in a nutshell) what I think about him (and all of his high-falutin ideals and opinions) - And those 4 words were - (*quote*) "I couldn't care less!" - And, believe me - I couldn't care less, either - No. Not even if I tried.

I was not very familiar with Gore Vidal prior to watching this informative documentary. What a fascinating, insightful and intelligent person. Observations and analyses he was making 40 years ago still ring true in today's political climate.

Very good documentary. Be ready to make some notes on some clever one liners and quips, that may lead you to be a smarter voter.

For high school, college and university students the film is a guide to Gore Vidal's life. (Oct. 3, 1925 - Jul 31, 2012) For those who have not read any of his books this film may provoke you into doing so. Gore always says it as it is without any pretense. Catch the movie and make your own assessment.

Great documentary with noteworthy opinions. America (and the world) needs more writers and thinkers like Gore Vidal.

This film was like a beginner’s guide to Gore Vidal. For me this was just what I needed, as I knew very little about him. Eventually, he would become one of the most gifted American authors of the 20th century. Vidal was a victim of American bigotry as he was basically blacklisted after his 1948 novel, “The city and the Pillar,” was published because the novel included homosexuals. We all know that Americans of that century were trained to believe that homosexuals were immoral and abnormal. Hey, just four years previously, Lillian Smith was likewise blacklisted by book critics for writing a novel suggesting that White Southerners were racist and murderous. Knowing just these two incidences helps to explain why so many, many Americans are still racist and homophobic to this day.

Great documentary.....Gore had a incredible life and was able to call out all the problems we suffer today....Particularly like his sparring with William Buckley.

The scene with William F. B. sparring on national TV with Gore, and William calls Gore a "queer". WOW!! As a kid, I was always really intriqued by him when I did see him on TV. Most people were confused and afraid of him. This doc. explains a lot. Just like Hunter S., he will be missed.
