A fun, but somewhat confusing, continuation of the Septimus Heap story. Septimus is forced back in time to become apprentice to an Alchemist, and Jenna and others try to follow him to help him return to the present. Some interesting new characters, including Queen Etheldredda, who is a bit more than a ghost, but still a nasty person anyway.

In the third book of the Septimus Heap Series, Physik, a sealed room is opened and an ancient ghost of a queen is accidentally released. Septimus ends up going back to the time of Queen Etheldredda. Jenna and others must find Septimus and escape from Queen Etheldredda back to their own time. Physik is an adventure filled with great characters living in a world that stretches back in time. I like the way Sage changed the speech of the people in the Queen,s time. It makes you feel like they really are in a much earlier version of the castle. I especially like the part of the book where the characters see people building an unfinished Ramblings. It is a bit of a cliff hanger at the end so you definitely have to read Queste, the next book. Which is not too bad 'cause it's also a good book! (4 and a 1/2 out of 5!)

This book was too confusing to finish. The first two books were okay, but this one was just confusing. The whole business with Jenna's great-great-great or so grandma is confusing, and then Septimus randomly goes back in time, to become a Physik's apprentice. Also, it doesn't clarify what a Physik is! I just couldn't understand it and ditched the whole series because it was too confusing. If you want a better book full of magic, read Harry Potter or something else.

This book is the third in the Septimus Heap series. It is a little boring, compared to the other books, but still pretty good.

All-new smart, sassy characters, but with the old characters we know and love. Absolutely wonderful.
