This book needed editing at 368 pages. It should be shorter. I preferred The It Girl. It took me awhile to get into the story. Who killed the mother during the hit and run??

This book had many dark secrets of the family, but not relevant with the storyline. I felt that there are more questions left unanswered even after finishing the book.

Not as good as other books. When a girl who is in serious trouble with a loan shark gets a letter that she is about to inherit a substantial amount from her dead grandmother. The problem is her grandparents have been dead for 20 years and…

The story used a lot about the knowledge and use of the Tarot cards almost as a character of its own which was different but not something you need to know to enjoy the book. Harriet or Hal is a young girl struggling to survive as a Tarot…

Slower read for me. It took longer for me to really get into, though it was enjoyable overall. I couldn’t help but feel like there was something missing from the ending.

I enjoyed this book until the ending. The Death of Mrs. Westaway was full of weird happenings and characters I couldn't trust, so every interaction made me suspicious. I couldn't figure out what the big family mystery was going to be and…

I loved this book! Ruth Ware is quickly becoming a new favorite author of mine. The spooky vibes in this book were immaculate. If you like Knives Out, you'll probably love this.

something of a mystery that turns out to not actually be one. It was very good

I was not a fan. The main character does have some complex characteristics and is fleshed out ok in the book. All the other characters for me are so surface and kinda predictable for this type of story.

Fantastic read. Characters are well developed and engaging, pace is appropriate, clues are strategically revealed to keep intrigue, while not giving away anything, the well weaved storyline draws one in smoothly. Extremely enjoyable read.

nice run down English house, creepy family, creepy goings on mystery.

Hal is a second generation psychic medium. It's a skill she doesn't really even believe in. When money problems - coupled with a chance summons to the reading of a will by a family she doesn't belong to - sets her on a path of fraud, it's…

Better than the last Ruth Ware book I read: In a Dark Dark wood. I swore I wasn't going to pick up another Ruth Ware book after that one but then grabbed this one. I think the author has redeemed herself somewhat with this book. While I…

My first experience with Ruth Ware, and I thoroughly enjoyed this gothic tale of dark family secrets. Kept me guessing and racing through the end to see how it would play out.

An excellent who-done-it mystery complete with a mansion, great characters, and an inheritance.

Oh my gosh what a slow read this one is. I read half way through and stopped reading. The end might have been worth the reading but I moved on to another book.

I reviewed a few of the other comments and would agree that there is a bit of a repetitive nature to this novel. It is only the second title by Ruth Ware that I have read, and even with some things that got under my skin a bit ('I'm sorry'…

I usually really enjoy Ware's books, and I did enjoy this one but I think only because it was by Ware. I felt like it didn't actually get suspenseful until about page 300 which was unfortunate. Up until then I felt like I wasn't getting…
